Fernando Alonso won the German Grand Prix in the Ferrari in dry and sunny conditions at Hockenheim, with Sebastian Vettel in the Red Bull and Jenson Button in his McLaren completing the podium positions.
Alonso controlled the race from the front after making a good start and protected his tyres well in the latter stages despite looking like he may come under pressure from Jenson Button who pitted one lap earlier than Alonso and Vettel, leapfrogging the German driver in the process.
Vettel re-passed Button on the penultimate lap, but came under investigation from the stewards in the aftermath.
Kimi Raikkonen had a quiet race after passing Michael Schumacher during the pit stops as the Mercedes burned through its tyres. Both Saubers also took advantage of Mercedes misery as Michael Schumacher dropped back, although he 44 year-old German tried a late come back on new tyres after a late third pit stop.
Mark Webber seemed to struggle all afternoon and took eighth, although the reason for his problems remain a mystery as he looked to lack confidence. The two Nico’s took ninth and tenth and the final two points, with Hulkenberg in the Force India heading Schumacher’s team-mate Rosberg in his Mercedes.
Notable strugglers included Lewis Hamilton who retired in the late stages after puncturing his McLaren’s tyre on debris from Felipe Massa’s nose cone and Romain Grosjean who never got to grips with his Lotus.
