after over 40,000 have been built. The convertible M3 will remain in production until September, and production of the sedan has already been stopped.

How auto enthusiasts treat the E90 M3 now that production is all but over will be interesting to watch. The car transitioned to a 4.0-liter V8 from the inline-six that had been used for the previous two generations. It turned the M3 into a high-class, German reinterpretation of the American muscle car. With 415hp and 295lb-ft on tap, it was quite a potent performer. The next generation M3 is rumored to drop the V8 in favor of a smaller inline-six with either two or three turbos.
