Each car was required to weight 294.4kg above the curb weight, the equivalent of three passengers. If the weight of the occupants did not bring the weight up to that point, then the cars were loaded with extra weight.
Sixteen teams competed, and each team was already the winner of thee national competitions. The team from the Canary Islands came in second place, and the Russian team came in third.
All of the teams were able to visit Volkswagen’s test center in Ehra-Lessien, Germany, and drove the natural gas-fueled UpVolkswagen Up! Gen.1Germany, 2011 > present107 versions

This is the second year that the contest has been won be a German team. Last year’s winner was Frank Zauft and the route went from San Francisco to Santa Monica, California.
