Hoggar: the Brazilian pick-up by Peugeot

Peugeot is presenting the Hoggar, a compact pick-up that has been developed in Brazil for the Brazilian market. With this vehicle specially designed and built to meet the requirements of the Brazilians Peugeot is willing to consolidate its position in that South American market.

Hoggar receives its name from a mountain chain in the Sahara desert, in Africa, which symbolizes the combination of power, strength and action. This compact pick-up will be the vehicle completing the Brazilian 207 family range, which already includes the hatchback versions, the SW, SW Escapade and the Passion notchback saloon.

Thanks to the new vehicle Peugeot is expecting to represent 10% of the sales of the Brazilian compact pick-up market.

The Hoggar has represented an investment of 100 million reais and its development was made thanks to 320 technicians and engineers in the past three years. The compact pick-up is based on chassis of the Brazilian 207 and that of the Partner, becoming the first model to use a "combined" platform. Set to be launched in Brazil on 15th May, the Hoggar will be available in three equipment levels and will be powered by two Flex Fuel engines.

In terms of designed the Hoggar features some of the aesthetics characteristic of the 207 family. In the front the pick-up has a large air intake that is crossed by an impact bar, with the headlights swerving along the wings.

At the back the Hoggar shows its strong looks thanks to the elaborately-shaped rear lights, with three elliptical lights placed inside a triangular red glass that continues round the side of the vehicle. The muscular look of the Hoggar is enhanced thanks to rear bumper, which is surrounded by a part that is used to protect the lights and that can also help to gain access to the cab, using it as steps.

Inside the Hoggar the dashboard has been inspired by the world of motorbikes, with three circular dials that suggest precision instruments. The peripheral vision is enhanced by the cab’s side windows. With the steering wheel and the seat being height adjustable the driver is sure to find the driving position that best suits him.

The Hoggar will be available in three equipment levels: the X-Line, XR and Escapade. The X-Line pick-up is the range entry model and will be powered by a Flex 8V 1.4 (1,360 cc) engine, with an output of 82 hp when operating on alcohol and 80 hp on petrol. The other two equipment levels are more sporty versions. The XR version, which is also equipped with a Flex 1.4 engine, features front headlights set in a black mask and two longitudinal bars that run around the cab. As for the Escapade it is powered by a 1.6 (1,587 cc) engine which develops maximum power of 113 hp on alcohol and 110 hp on petrol.
