SUVs there. Capacity for the RX at the factory will grow by 30,000 units a year, and it will add about 400 jobs. The expansion will be finished in 2014.

"This is a big and ambitious project with new technology, exacting standards and tight timelines," said Brian Krinock, president manufacturing at Toyota Canada.

The Cambridge factory is the only factory in the world outside of Japan that produces Lexus models. The factory already builds 65,00 RX SUVs a year and employs 6,500 people.

Moving more production to Canada shields Toyota from the falling dollar-to-yen exchange rate. This is becoming the norm for Japanese companies competing in the US. Both HondaHondaHondaJapan, 1948 > present102 models
