Lotus 102 Driven at Goodwood While Owner Rows Across Atlantic

V12 was campaigned only for 1990, and it will be making its way up the hill at the Goodwood Festival of Speed with Martin Donnelly behind the wheel as he was during the 1990 Formula 1 season. However, while the car is at Goodwood, Andrew Morris, its owner, will be in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Morris is attempting to row a boat across the 2,587 mile wide ocean. 

Morris will be rowing from the east coast of Canada with Roz Savage with the goal of rowing to London. Their expedition begins on May 13 and estimate that the journey will take at least two months. Only 30 people have rowed across the Atlantic, and no one has ever rowed across the Atlantic to London. The record for such a journey is 55 days and 13 hours. Morris and Savage are the first male/female duo to attempt the crossing, and their goal is to arrive in London during the Olympic opening ceremonies. 

While Morris and Savage are rowing, the Lotus 102 will to racing up the 1.16 mile Goodwood hill. The car will do a timed run up the hill and will be among over 40 LotusLotusUnited Kingdom, 1952 > present68 models

The 102 was the only Lotus Formula 1 car to use a V12 engine. Lamborghini was a Formula 1 engine supplier from 1989 to 1993 for the Lotus, LigierLigierFrance, 1970 > 19714 models

and Modena teams. Its V12 engine was mostly uncompetitive and unreliable. The Lotus 102 retired 19 times in 16 races and scored just three points in the entire season. It was driven by Derek Warwick, Donnelly and Johnny Herbert who drove the car for the final two rounds of the season. The car's best performance was at the Hungarian Grand Prix where it took fifth with Warwick driving. 

For 1991, Lotus revised the 102 heavily to the 102B but switched engines to a Judd V8. 

The 1990 Formula 1 season was interesting from a modern standpoint. While the cars were limited to 3.5 liters, configuration was open. Various teams ran V8s, V10s and V12s. SubaruSubaruJapan, 1953 > present34 models

even supplied a Flat 12 that was not fast enough to qualify in any race in the season. There was an equally unsuccessful W12 from Life Racing Engines.
