in the United States earlier this year, it promised that there would be a diesel in the engine lineup before the end of 2013. It now says that the diesel will not launch until late April 2014 due to issues with getting the engine emissions certified.

The engine is Mazda’s Skyactiv-D 2.2-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel. In Europe, it offers 148hp (150ps) and 280lb-ft (380Nm), but the specs may be changed for the US.

"I know we had discussed it being in showrooms before the end of the year, and everyone involved in the program is disappointed it will not be, but final certification testing -- the results of which are looking encouraging -- is taking longer than we had initially expected," said Robert Davis who runs Mazda North America in a letter to Mazda employees.
