at the New York Auto Show; although, it has done a very poor job of keeping the car a secret. The four-door compact sedan gets power from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 355hp and 332lb-ft of torque, which makes it the most power four-cylinder engine on sale today. , the CLA45 AMG comes with all-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

"With the CLA 45 AMG, Mercedes-AMG is launching a unique and highly desirable automobile with all the typical DNA of AMG. A high-tech package that includes the most powerful series-production four-cylinder engine in the world as well as performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive, it embodies Driving Performance at its best,” said AMG Chairman Ola Källenius.

The CLA45 AMG is mechanically identical to the A45 AMG. They share drivetrains and interior appointments. The major difference is that Mercedes will not be selling the A-Class in North America but will sell the CLA-Class.

The 2.0-liter turbo engine is enough to get the CLA45 to 100km/h in 4.6 seconds to an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h. It has average consumption of 6.9l/100km (34mpg US).

Dynamically, the CLA45 AMG gets a three-stage stability control system with curve assist. The systems work with the all-wheel drive system to send power to the needed side of the car to improve traction and handling.

Inside, buyers get sport seats covered in fake suede, red seat belts, multifunction steering wheel and brushed aluminum trim.

Of course buyers will be able to specify a wide array of options for the CLA45. They include carbon fiber trim packages for the front and rear, AMG wheels, black trim package, performance exhaust, performance suspension, performance steering wheel, AMG seats, central-locking wheels and red calipers.
