With a bolder design, closer to the recently launched line of compact models, the second generation of the C-Class Coupé is expected to have a wider range of engines to compete with the
Audi A5 and the
BMW Series 4.
The launch of the coupé variant follows on from the launch in 2014 of the sedan and estate versions of the model. The range is expected to be completed next year when the C-Class Cabriolet is displayed during the Geneva Motor Show in March.
Visually the new coupé from Mercedes has great similarities with the estate version, particularly regarding the front-end design. At the rear the design is inspired on the
S-Class Coupé. In terms of dimensions the new C-Class Coupé has grown, based on the new Mercedes MRA architecture. Compared to the previous generation it is 95mm longer and 40mm wider.
The interior is based on the C-Class sedan, however de coupé bodystyle receives unique sports seats with integrated head restraints and also two individual seats in the rear. Mercedes also announced an entertainment system Bluetooth-compatible with allows connection to the Internet via a smartphone. This feature will be featured as standard.
Another technology available inside the cabin will be the Mercedes Attention Assist function that warns the driver in distraction and fatigue situations. This system is complemented by the Collision Prevention Assist that can make autonomous braking at speeds up to 200km/h.
The new range of engines available with the C-Class Coupe will include four petrol engines and two diesel, all compliant of Euro 6 emissions standards and consume 20% less fuel than the previous model.
At launch the range of petrol engines will include the 1.6 liter engine of the C180 with 156hp, the 2.0 liter engine versions C200 and C250 with 184hp and 211hp and finally the C300 version also with a 2.0 liter engine with 245hp.
When it comes to diesel engines, the C-Class Coupé will be served by two four-cylinder 2.1-liter engines with 170 and 204hp, the C220d and C250d respectively.
