might be owned by a Chinese company now, but it still considers itself a British brand. It announced plans for further European expansion at the Shanghai Motor Show including introducing the MG3MG MG3 3TIME United Kingdom, 2013 > present compact to the UK and Europe later in the year and showing the CSMG CSUnited Kingdom, 2013 > 2013 concept crossover.
The MG3 will be aimed at young buyers in Europe looking for a fun, inexpensive car. It was designed and engineered by MG’s Birmingham engineering team in the UK. The design is inspired by the Zero ConceptMG Zero ConceptUnited Kingdom, 2010 > 20103 photos
from 2010.
The MG3 has clean, chunky styling with minimalist styling. The front is simple with large headlights, a narrow, V-shaped grill and black trim. The rear has vertical taillights, an integrated rear spoiler and simulated rear diffuser. It has wraparound LED running lights along the front splitter.
When it goes on sale, buyers will be able to choose graphics for the roof, sides and bonnets. There will also be several interior trim and wheel personalization options available.
Power comes from a 104hp four-cylinder petrol engine with a five-speed manual.
MG’s other big reveal at Shanghai was the CS crossover concept, and the company says that its first crossover will look very similar to the concept.
The design comes from MG’s Global Design Director Anthony Williams-Kenny and his team in Shanghai.
The CS shares styling cues with the MG3 but adds more angular, modern styling to the mix. The front still has the large headlights and V-shaped grill from the MG3, but the hood has V-shaped creases and larger LED running lights. The side has a predominant crease that goes from the headlights to the taillights. The design also features a roof made almost entirely out of a single pane of glass.
MG is not revealing anything about what powers the CS.
