Mini unveiled the third generation of the Mini John Cooper Works Convertible, anticipating its debut scheduled for late March at the New York Motor Show.
With market launch scheduled for early March, the new John Cooper Works Convertible is equipped with the same four-cylinder petrol engine from the hatchback version released in 2015.
Compared to its predecessor, the 2.0-liter turbo engine that equips the new
John Cooper Works Convertible is 20hp more powerful with a total of 231hp. Torque increased to 320Nm. Thanks to the engine, combined with a manual six-speed gearbox, the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 6.6 seconds with a top speed set at 242km/h. Optionally the vehicle may be bought with an
eight-speed automatic transmission which makes the acceleration faster by 0.1 second (6.5 seconds), but with a maximum speed of 240 km/h.
Although more powerful, Mini still managed to reduce consumption in the John Cooper Works Convertible. In the case of the manual version average consumption stands at 6.5l/100km with CO2 emissions of 152g/km. The automatic version is more efficient with an announced average consumption of 5.9l/100km and emissions of 138g/km.
Larger than the previous generation, the new John Cooper Works Convertible is now 135kg heavier (1310kg), with 3874mm in length, 1727mm wide and 1415mm high. The wheelbase is set at 2495mm.
As usual, the John Cooper Works Convertible has a unique package of changes in terms of design which helps it to differentiate it from the
less powerful versions of the model. These modifications include a unique front bumper with larger air intakes, one of the blades of the grille is painted in red, LED headlights, wheel arch protections, brakes red calipers, wider sills, deeper rear bumper and two chromed exhaust pipes.
Inside, the elements of the top of the range version includes customized sills, front seats with better support and integrated headrests, a multi-function three-spoke steering wheel, a new gear lever, stainless steel pedals and an instrument panel with reviewed graphics.
This year Mini is expected to unveil the new John Cooper Works Clubman. This version will be presented at the New York Motor Show.
