Nissan London Taxi Debuts with New, Classic-Inspired Face

platform. It will not go on sale until December 2014, and an electric version will go on sale in 2015.

The front of the taxi is redesigned to look like the classic Austin FX4LTI FX 4United Kingdom, 1982 > present London taxi. It gets a new grill with round LED headlights and a new front bumper.

"The main challenges were concerned with making sure customers can easily recognize it as a taxi. Being in London, we were able to go out and talk to cabbies about what was important to them as well as look at the vehicle from a customer's viewpoint,” said Darryl Scriven, Design Excellence Manager at Nissan Europe.

The vehicle has been designed to meet the unique needs of taxis in London like the law that London’s black cabs have a 25ft (7.6m) turning circle.

The internal combustion version of the Nissan London Taxi will use a 1.6-liter petrol engine with an automatic transmission with lower emissions than the current taxis.

The NV200 taxi is also offered in New York, Barcelona and Tokyo.
