The French knew before the Spanish rally that he just needed to finish the race ahead of his team mate, Finn Jari-Matti Latvala, to ensure the anticipated title.
The fight for victory in Catalunya eventually ended being between the two Volkswagen drivers who seemed in a league of their own. Ogier took the lead on the first day starting at the front and with his opponents having visibility problems with dust.
However Latvala was able to recover on the second day when the rally moved to the asphalt. Still the advantage built by Ogier ended up being enough to win the seventh rally of the season and take home the championship.
After nine consecutive titles from Sébastien Loeb, Ogier is continuing the French domination in WRC, increasing to 11 consecutive titles won by French drivers.
