road car went on sale in 1998, the Guinness Book of Records certified it as the most expensive car in the world at the equivalent of $1,547,620. Just 26 of the road cars were made - 20 coupes and six roadsters, and one of them, a coupe, was officially registered in the US. It was thought that coupe was the only CLK-GTR in the US, but a dealer in Arkansas is offering a CLK-GTR Roadster with just 70 miles on the odometer. The seller is asking $1,995,980 for the car but says it can be shipped worldwide.

The dealer claims that this is the only CLK-GTR roadster in the US, and given that just six were built, that seems very likely. The car was recently serviced by two of the original engineers who had to be flown to Arkansas for three days to work on the car. The dealer claims that the car has been federalized, which means it would be completely legal for driving on US roads and would make it only second federalized CLK-GTR in the US.

sold a controlling stake of itself to Mercedes in 1998, AMG's original founder Hans-Werner Aufrech created a new company called HWA. When it came time to do the roadsters, Mercedes was done with the project, and AMG and HWA had provided engineering help on the project. So HWA built the six roadsters. 

The major changes over the coupe are a larger grill with an integrated star, while the coupe had a much smaller Mercedes hood emblem, a reworked roof with roll hoops, changes to the engine cover, and a larger rear wing. Like all but two of the GTRs, this car is powered by a 6.9-liter V12 with 604hp and 572lb-ft of torque.
