Opel has debuted its new FlexFix bike carrier system that can carry four bikes. The system will only be available on the Astra Sports Tourer and Zafira Tourer. The system is integrated into the rear bumper and can fold down to open the rear hatch of both vehicles. The FlexFix bike rack can hold 30kg in each of the two slots closest to the car and 20kg in each of the farthest slots.
The system is modular, so if drivers only need two slots, they can remove a piece to shorten the rack. The rack can be locked to prevent thieves from removing the bikes from the car.
Opel already offers a FlexFix system on the Corsa, Meriva, five-door Astra and Antara that can carry two bikes. The ergonomics experts at the Aktion Gesunder Rücken e.V.(Action for Healthy Backs) have certifed the rack as having a low lift point that does not cause back strain.
The four-place FlexFix system costs €690 on the Astra Sports Tourer and €790 on the Zafira Tourer. If the buyer already owns a two-place Flexfix, then Opel offers an adapter for the extra two places for €227.30.
