sub-compact SUV that will launch later in the year. Opel has built the Mokka to be a small SUV with optional all-wheel drive that blends urban drivabaility and light off-road duty.

“We are proud of our all-new SUV, the Mokka, which contains many German engineered key components including engines and transmissions, the chassis and brakes, ESP, AWD, acoustic treatment, the exhaust, seats and many others. The design, the vehicle performance, quality and technology and the acoustic signature are all up to the high standards customers expect from Opel today," said Ulrich Schmalohr, Opel Vehicle Line Executive.

The Mokka will be sold in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive variants. The all-wheel drive system adds 65kg when fitted to the Mokka. Even the all-wheel drive system is only activated on demand when the vehicle senses a loss of traction. Otherwise, it is still a front-wheel drive vehicle to provide better fuel economy. Up to 50% of the torque can be sent to the rear wheels if necessary.

All Mokkas will be fitted with a front suspension with side load compensation springs that should improve the ride and handling and lower noise and vibration. The rear suspension will be different depending on if it is fitted with all-wheel drive or not.

When it goes on sale, the Mokka will have three engine options: a naturally-aspirated 1.6 liter four-cylinder with 115hp and 155Nm, a turbocharged 1.4 liter four-cylinder with 140hp and 200Nm and one diesel option from a 1.7 liter CDTI with 170hp and 300Nm. All three engines are available with six-speed manual transmissions with start/stop. The 1.7 liter diesel will be available with a six-speed automatic immediately, and the same automatic will come later on the 1.4 liter turbo petrol engine.
