is getting Opel’s 1.6 SIDI Turbo engine with 197hp (200ps) and 221lb-ft (300Nm) to take the title as Europe’s most powerful compact MPV.
The 1.6 SIDI model will only be available with a six-speed manual that has been improved with less shifting effort. It also comes standard with Opel’s FlexRide chassis, Opel Eye front camera, blind spot alert and rearview camera.
The new engine is enough to get the Zafira to 100km/h in 8.9 seconds and a top speed of 225km/h. It has average fuel economy of 7.0l/100km and emits 164g/km of CO2.
“It brings out a winning combination of high-level performance and ultimate comfort defined by comprehensive flexibility,” said Opel CEO Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann.
The engine shares a block with the rest of Opel’s 1.6-liter engine family but with different pistons, lower compression and more boost from the turbo.
Orders for the car will begin in November and sales will begin in early 2014. Opel says that it will not announce prices until orders begin.
