Peugeot has completely repositioned its 3008 model, by transforming it from an MPV into a SUV. The model will hit the market in November betting on the strong appeal of SUV models in the European market. Besides a more agressive look, the new 3008 gets a larger boot, new safety and assistance technology, as well as Peugeot's latest i-Cockpit design.
Based on the PSA Group's EMP2 modular platform, the second generation 3008 was previewed at the 2014 Paris motor show with the
Quartz concept. It retains the vehicle's muscular lines, changing the model's raised MPV shape into a SUV. Weight has been cut by up to 100kg, giving the car almost the same dimensions as key rivals such as the
Kia Sportage and
Hyundai Tucson. Although ground clearance has been raised an extra 50mm, the model's overall height has remained the same.
The interior has been styled according to the latest i-Cockpit design and includes a 12.3in digital display and a separate 8.0in touchscreen infotainment system. Both can be configured by the driver according to his own taste and needs.
One of the big changes of the new 3008 is the increased boot capacity which goes up to 1824 litres with the rear seats folded forwards. The new boot is equipped with a sliding floor section which should help loading large items into the vehicle.
With better fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions than
the previous generation, the new 3008 will be available with a range of two petrol engines and four diesel options. The 1.2l PureTech with 130hp and 1.6l THP with 165hp will be the available petrol options (with six-speed manual and automatic trnasmissions available). The diesel range will consist of 100hp and 120hp versions of the 1.6l BlueHDi powertrain, while the 2.0l BlueHDi engine will be offered in 150 and 180hp outputs.
At launch the model will be sold with three trim levels have been confirmed: Access, Active and Allure.
