has revealed its latest entry into its Polestar high performance range. The V60Volvo V60 PolestarSweden, 2013 > present is getting the Polestar treatment with 345hp (350ps) and 369lb-ft (500Nm) with a 3.0-liter inline-six engine with upgraded turbo and intercooler. The S60 PolestarVolvo S60 PolestarSweden, 2013 > present is getting the same upgrades as the V60, and for the first time the cars will be sold in North America in Canada and the USA. They will also be sold in the Netherlands, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.
“With the introduction of the V60 model, we are proud to continue the heritage of fast Volvo estates like the racing 850 BTCC, a tradition deeply rooted among Volvo enthusiasts,” said Christian Dahl, Polestar CEO.
The body is slightly modified with a new front splitter, rear spoiler and rear diffuser. Other than the blue Polestar paint, it would be hard to tell that the cars have been significantly modified from the exterior.
The interior features a new steering wheel, sport seats and Polestar blue trim.
The 3.0-liter inline-six engine gets a new twin-scroll Borg Warner turbo, new intercooler, and a larger diameter 2.5in stainless steel exhaust with twin 3.5in tail pipes. The transmission is a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters and a Haldex all-wheel drive system. The traction control system has been retuned to allow for more slip. The performance gets both Polestar models to 100km/h in 4.9 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h.
That is a bit lower than the original 508hp and 424lb-ft (575Nm) that the S60 Polestar ConceptVolvo S60 PolestarSweden, 2012 > present7 photos
had, but many of the other upgrades from the concept has been carried over.
Both cars are based on the latest generation of the S60 and V60. The chassis gets 80% stiffer springs with higher performance Öhlins shocks and 20in Polestar wheels. The brakes are upgraded with 371mm ventilated front discs with six-piston Brembo calipers and 302mm ventilated discs in the rear.
”We have continued our work to create a true driver’s car which is not limited only to a few specific driving conditions, but enjoyable on everything from your favourite winding roads to taking the family for a long journey, no matter summer or winter,” said Robert Dahlgren, Polestar racing and test driver.
Both cars will be on sale in June 2014.
A racing version of the S60 Polestar will race in the Australian V8 Supercar series next season.
