compact SUV at the LA Auto Show. Porsche expects the Macan to be the company’s bestselling model within a few years, and it has built a dedicated factory for the car in Leipzig, Germany. Porsche has finally explained that the Macan name comes from the Indonesian word for tiger.

. In fact without having something for scale, its possible to confuse the two cars with one another. The Macan does have a slightly different front end compared to the Cayenne with individual headlight lenses and larger air intakes.

The interior of the Macan is meant to be just as high quality as any other Porsche model. It features a sloping center console, sporty front seats and a multi-function sports steering wheel. The instruments are laid out with three round dials with a central tachometer, 4.8in information display on the right and speedometer on the left.
The Macan is launching with three models – the Macan SPorsche Macan SGermany, 2014 > present, Macan S DieselPorsche Macan S DieselGermany, 2014 > present and Macan TurboPorsche Macan TurboGermany, 2014 > present.
The basic version is the Macan S with a biturbo 3.0-liter V6 with 335hp (340ps) that comes standard with all-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual clutch transmission. It gets to 100km/h in 5.4 seconds or 5.2 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono package. It will hit a top speed of 254km/h and uses between 9.0l/100km and 8.7l/100km with emissions between 212g/km of CO2 and 204g/km of CO2.
The Macan S Diesel uses a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel with 254hp (258ps). It can hit 100km/h in 6.3 seconds or 6.1 seconds with the Sport Chrono package and has a top speed of 230km/h. It uses between 6.3l/100km and 6.1l/100km with emissions between 164g/km of CO2 and 159g/km of CO2.
Finally, there is the top spec Macan Turbo with a biturbo 3.6-liter V6 with 394hp (400ps) and accelerates to 100km/h in 4.8 seconds or in 4.6 seconds with the Sport Chrono package and has a top speed of 266km/h. It has fuel consumption between 9.2l/100km and 8.9l/100km and emits between 216g/km of CO2 and 208g/km of CO2.
All of the versions come with an Off-road mode that is activated with a button on the center console. At speeds up to 80km/h, all of the systems are forced into a greater level of traction, and if optioned, the air suspension raises the car 40mm as well.
They also all come with a Sport button on the center console that makes the accelerator more responsive, a higher rev limit, the transmission will hold revs longer, shifts are faster and the accelerator is blipped during downshifts.
Options for the car will include an air suspension, a torque vectoring differential and adaptive headlights. Added technology can include adaptive cruise control and bi-xenon headlights. The Macan Turbo comes standard with LED lights
In Germany, the Macan S and Macan S Diesel start at €57.930, including 19% VAT. The Macan Turbo costs €79.826, including VAT. European sales will begin in April 5. The Macan S and Macan Turbo will only be sold in the US. The Macan S starts at $49,900, and the Macan Turbo is $72,300.
