The German business magazine Wirtschaftswoche has learned that the German automobile club ADAC has registered interest with the track's liquidators to bid to buy the historic racecourse. ADAC is interested in buying the grand prix course and Nordschleife but not the amusement park, hotel or museum.
The magazine reported that KPMG, the company running the sale, has received 100 expressions of interest and among them 30 are considered serious parties in the sale.
The ADAC has also signed with the liquidators to hold races for 2014, but there is a clause in the contract that if it does not get along with the track's new owners, then the races could be cancelled. That gives relative security to the Nürburgring 24 Hours, Truck Grand Prix and VLN series for next season.
The process for the Nürburgring sale begins with KPMG taking collecting a list of interested buyers that they will evaluate to make sure that the bidders have the money to bid on the track. The next step will be for actual bids to be submitted. The purchase is not expected to be complete until the spring of 2014.
In addition to the ADAC, a consortium of local businesses and Ring fans has joined up to bid on the track. It includes the organizations Yes to the Nürburgring, Friends of the Nürburgring and the Tourism Association of the Nürburgring and Eifel Region. The Honorary President of the ADAC has given €250,000 of his own money to support this organization.
