We have been publishing now and then the top-selling models in Europe in order to check the preferences of drivers when it comes to choose a new car. Today we have decided to make it differently and check how things are going in terms of brands until the end of the month of August.
We think you won't be surprised with the leader of our list, but maybe you will get stunned with the dominant position that brand has acquired in Europe. So check our list and share with us your thoughts about it, we will be glad to hear from you.
Toyota is the first brand in our top 10 list of the most sold brands until the month of August. The Japanese make sold in the first eight months of the year a total of 353,195 units, as the brand recovers from a poorer 2011 caused by the tsunami in Japan.
Next we have Mercedes-Benz that is one of the two only brands that has managed to raise its sales until August. In comparison to 2011, Mercedes has sold +2.0% units with a total of 398,612.
In eighth place we have BMW who is, at the moment, no longer the top-selling premium brand. The German make has sold until the end of August a total of 415,877 units 2.6% less than the first eight months of 2011.
Citroën is the seventh most sold brand in Europe until August, with a total of 474,608 cars registered. The French make is suffering with the Euro crisis and its' sales have fallen 12.2%, comparing to 2011.
Audi is currently the top-selling premium brand in Europe, having left behind BMW and Mercedes. The German brand has sold until the end of August a total of 484,937 units and since the beginning of the year its sales have risen 5.8%, fighting against the European crisis.
Peugeot is facing one of the biggest crisis in its' history and sales are falling up to 14.5% this year. The French make has sold 552,337 units, almost 100,000 less than the same period last year.
Renault is the top French make in our list with a total of 567,018 units sold until the end of August. But there are no good news coming from Renault as it is the make that seems to have suffered more the effects of the crisis in Europe with less 19.6% of sales, comparing with the same period last year.
Although it is also facing major intern problems Opel/Vauxhall is featuring on the top-3 of the most sold brands in Europe with a total of 575,682 units until the end of August. Its future seems uncertain as many say GM should get rid of it because of its enormous losses, but it seems the brand is still one of Europe's favorites.
Ford is the runner-up in the list of the top-selling brands in Europe. The American brand has been renovating all its major models and since the beginning of this year it has sold a total of 653,954 units.
Volkswagen is the unequivocal sales leader in Europe until now, and it won't probably lose its place until the end of the year. Since the beginning of 2012 VW has sold 1,113,577, almost more 500,000 than Ford, clearly showing the dominance of the German brand in the old continent.
