, but power has been limited to 135hp and 150lb-ft of torque. Still that is 34hp more and 52lb-ft more than the standard 1.4-liter Multiair engine in the US.
In addition to the more powerful engine, the car will also get a sport-tuned suspension, upgraded brakes, more aggressive exterior design and nicer interior.
“The new Fiat 500 Turbo is the answer to all the fans that loved the style of our Cinquecento but wanted more power and performance for their daily drive. With 135 horsepower and 150 lb.-ft. of torque, the Fiat 500 Turbo hits the sweet spot between the regular Cinquecento and the high-performance Fiat 500 Abarth," said Tim Kuniskis, Head of Fiat North America.
The car sports two intercoolers and a 2.7in longer nose to fit them. There is also a new exhaust with polished tip at the rear. The transmission is a five-speed manual that Fiat says will get 34mpg on the highway. To prevent torque steer, it has larger intermediate shafts and CV joints. The front brakes are an inch larger at 11.1in to help with stopping
The body has lower side skirts, lower rear skirt and roof-mounted spoiler to give the car a sportier look as well. It also gets 16in wheels with black pockets.
Inside, red or black, heated leather seats will be optional. The other new option will be a Beats by Dr. Dre branded stereo that adds an 8in subwoofer and 368W amplifier.
The Fiat 500 Turbo will start at $19,500 plus a $700 destination charge when it comes to the US this fall.
