Volkswagen Says MQB Platform is Saving the Company Money

spent billions developing its modular MQB platform and updating its factories to build it. But according to Volkswagen finance boss Hans Dieter Poetsch, the platform is already saving the company money.

Volkswagen Group expects to have sold 4 million cars worldwide using the platform by 2016 and use it on 40 vehicles across all of its brands.

The MQB platform is designed for small cars using front-mounted transverse engines with front-wheel or all-wheel drive. It debuted on the new Audi A3A3 Gen.3 [Typ 8V]Audi A3 Gen.3 [Typ 8V]Germany, 2012 > present275 versions

and will be used across the group’s brands.

The company is attempting to streamline production with more shared platforms. Its goal is to reduce product costs by one billion euros in 2014 and beat 2012’s operating profit of €11.5 billion.
