Volvo presents Concept Universe in Shanghai

Volvo has presented a new large sedan concept at the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show called the Concept Universe.

Offering a sneak peek at Volvo’s next top-of-the-line luxury sedan, the Concept Universe is aimed at buyers with upmarket taste who still want the classic Volvo look. The ‘human-centric’ Scandinavian design language of the concept stays true to the Volvo’s heritage by drawing inspiration from the lines of classic models, while adding a coupe roof and solid rear-end. According to the manufacturer this will ‘spark a subconscious desire and a feeling of eternal beauty’. Wow!

Vice President of Design at Volvo, Peter Horbury, says of the new design: "Just like fine luxury goods, this design feels handcrafted and durable enough to stand the test of time. We will compete with the best with our special kind of Scandinavian Design. It is unmatched in performance and technology, but without superficiality or complication."

On the Universe’s interior, the luxury theme continues and adds a dose of user-friendliness as well. It features a touch-screen that approaches the drivers hand when reaching towards it, rear seats moulded into the trim and a dynamic colour scheme that fades from a dark front to a ‘light rear seat haven.’

Horbury adds "The Concept Universe is exceptionally refined, yet with all the simplistic assets that make Volvo champions of the uncomplicated. There is a growing appreciation for this ingenious blend of design and technology among modern luxury car buyers. This trend paves the way for our success. We are convinced that our special brand of luxury has a great future."

Powertrain details are yet to be released by Volvo.

whoa...vertigo inducing front, very weird, looks like an architect designed the car. Still, praise for being different

Wow, that front end looks like a futuristic Air Conditioner. Or a robot. Either way, it looks worse than a Panamera.
