The 2011 Geneva Motor Show will see Volvo unveiling of the V60 Plug-in Hybrid, a model that is virtually production-ready and that will produce CO2 emissions below 50 g/km and deliver fuel consumption of 1.9 l/100 km.
Thanks to the close cooperation with the Swedish energy supplier Vattenfall Volvo will become in 2012 the first manufacturer on the market to add to its portfolio a Plug-in Hybrid.
Thanks to the use of the Plug-in Hybrid technology, this V60 is able to combine the properties from three different car types in one single sports wagon. The vehicle is also able to drive on electric energy only for up to 50 km.
"This second-generation hybrid is the perfect choice for the uncompromising buyer who wants a superbly carbon dioxide-lean car packed with driving pleasure," says Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO of Volvo Cars.
At the front the wheels will be powered by a five-cylinder 2.4-litre D5 turbodiesel, which delivers 215 horsepower and maximum torque of 440 Nm. At the back power will be handed by an electric motor producing 70 horsepower and supplied by a 12 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The Plug-in Hybrid V60 fitted with a six-speed automatic transmission.
"In order to get true car enthusiasts to think green, you have to offer them the opportunity to drive with low carbon dioxide emissions without taking away the adrenaline rush that promotes genuine driving pleasure. The V60 Plug-in Hybrid has all the traditional properties of a genuine sports wagon. What we've done is to spice it up with spearhead technology," says Stefan Jacoby.
Further information will be revealed on the Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid on the press conference at the Geneva MotorShow on March 1st.
