The Volkswagen plans to spawn several variants of its Up city car. At the Frankfurt Auto Show, it showed off a five-door version of the car, which we know is coming next year, and a GTI-esque version for the Up. The Cross Up is meant to be the softroader version of the car.
The Cross Up raises the Up's suspension by 15mm. It is also a five door giving us the first hint of what the future five-door Up will look like. The extra door remolds the C-pillar giving it a more upright appearance and making the car look generally larger. The Cross Up gets front and rear skid plates that at least cosmetically give the car a more purposeful appearance. It also gets black, protective cladding.
The Up will be available very soon in Europe, and the five door will be released in the first quarter of 2012. There is no word yet on when the first variants of the Up will be released.
