World premiere of Fiat Freemont in Geneva

Geneva will be the stage of the presentation of the new Fiat Freemont, a SUV that starts another chapter of the partnership between Fiat and Chrysler and that will reach the markets in the second half of 2011.

The Freemontwill be based on the Dodge Journey and will be Fiat’s first vehicle to come out of the partnership with the Chrysler Group. The new model will be produced at the same plant where the 500 is produced for the US market, in Toluca, Mexico.

With the name reminding freedom, the Freemont has been developed to meet the various desires of families and those seeking a spacious, comfortable and versatile vehicle that can be used both for everyday life or weekend leisure.

With 4890mm long, 1880mm wide and 1720mm high the Fiat Freemont guarantees excellent interior roominess, which is backed by the 2890mm wheelbase. It offers 7 standard seats with a genuine third row of roomy seats that is easily accessible because the doors open to 90°. This row can become a regular load platform by folding it down with one simple movement and completely disappearing.

The second row of seats has been raised comparatively to the first row in order to allow maximum visibility for all occupants. The third row has also been raised above the second one.

The Fiat Freeemont can be ordered with an innovative child booster system, which guarantees that the children on board are sitting correctly, optimising the seatbelt geometry and guaranteeing greater protection, practicality and comfort.

A new front end and brand new bumpers and grille separate this new model from the Dodge Journey. The back has also been redesigned and receives a new bumper and LED tail lights.

The Freemont will be available with a front wheel drive powered by two turbo diesel power units, a 140 HP or a 170 HP 2.0 MultiJet, both combined with a manual gearbox. The new model will also receive a later 4x4 version that will be fitted with a 170 HP 2.0 MultiJet or a 276 HP 3.6 petrol V6 engine, both combined with automatic transmissions. All engines will be produced by FPT- Fiat PowerTrain, with the exception of Chrysler Group Pentastar’s powerful 3.6 litre unit.
