is preparing to start the production of its electric sports car, the SP:01SP:01Detroit Electric SP:01United States of America, 2013 > present. A few months for the start of the produciton in the UK the brand unveiled the final design of the model.

The launch of SP: 01 was originally planned for Europe and Asia later this year, but Detroit Electric decided to postpone it until 2015 and do it on a global scale. Remember that the electric sports two-seater concept was first unveiled in 2013 at the Shanghai Motor Show.

The most striking element of the new design is the new fastback configuration. The exterior design was optimized using the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis to provide increased airflow and reduce turbulence, to achieve maximum performance and stability.

A large sculptural rear wing and an underbody diffuser have been incorporated to reduce the lift and improve the downforce at high speeds.

In terms of safety the lithium-ion batteries of the SP:01 have been placed in a protective composite casing that protects cells from damage in case of accident.

When it unveiled the SP:01, Detroit Electric said it would become the fastest production electric vehicle in the world with a top speed of 249km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in about 3.7 seconds.

Besides the SP:01, Detroit Electric is already considering the production of a 2+2 model and a sedan that could reach the market in 2016.
