Fernando Alonso's fourth place finish in the Korean Grand Prix gave him the points that he needed to overtake Michael Schumacher as the Formula 1 driver with the most career points in the sport's history. He will celebrate with his helmet in the Indian Grand Prix, which shows "1571 F1 points World Record" and thank you messages in English, French and Italian.
To be fair, Alonso's record number of points is more due to when he is racing that outright dominance. Of his 1,571 points, 577 points came when F1 awarded nine or 10 points per win, and 994 points have come since F1 has awarded 25 points per win. He has won 32 races in his career so far, compared to 35 wins from Sebastian Vettel and 91 wins from Michael Schumacher.
Alonso announced his helmet for the race on his Twitter page.
Alonso currently sits in second place in the World Drivers' Championship with 207 points. He is guaranteed to remain in second place after the Indian Grand Prix regardless of what happens.
