Hamilton Running Out of Options for 2013 Season

Hamilton has been sponsored by McLaren for his entire career

Lewis Hamilton plans to make his final decision about whom he will drive for next season during the summer break in August. He might have waited too long though. The only real options left for him are staying with McLarenMcLarenMcLarenUnited Kingdom, 1963 > present92 models

and his lack of wins this season. The problem is that many of the teams have already made their decisions for next season. Mercedes has not made its decision about Michael Schumacher yet, and FerrariFerrariFerrariItaly, 1947 > present233 models

is still deciding on Filipe Massa.

According to Hamilton, he has not discussed anything about the future with McLaren yet.

"We haven't sat down and discussed anything yet but I'm sure over the summer break, when we have the summer break, it would be nice to get something in place. That would be a time when we can be more relaxed and make the most sensible decision for the future," said Hamilton.

McLaren has been the patron of Hamilton since he was 13. It has sponsored him throughout his entire 14-year racing career. Leaving the team would not only be a major change for Hamilton but also the team.

"There are lots of things to take into account. These people have supported me; these are the people that got me into Formula 1. But, you know, I want to win. I'm not that young any more so I want to make sure that whatever I do I make the right decision so I can maximize my career, you know. I just need to make sure that I'm winning. That's what I exist for, that's what I train and work for every day," said Hamilton.

Hamilton feels as though he has been in the position to win several times this season but has been let down by the car. He is clearly frustrated by it.

Does Hamilton owe anything to McLaren for standing by him for so long? He might have a point that he has been let down by the car this season, but this team has supported him throughout his career. Does he still owe them for that or should he make the decision that is best for him regardless of the team?

I think Lewis will stay with McLaren. I don't see him in a mid-pack team unless Lotus give a huge step forward and try to hire him. Time will say.

It seems really unlikely that he will leave this year to me as well. He is not going to get a ride at Red Bull or Ferrari, and it seems like Lotus or Mercedes would be a lateral move at best. Besides,...
