Vettel's win looked like this most of the day with him in a significant lead

Sebastian Vettel led practically every lap of the Canadian Grand Prix and won with an over 15-second lead. Fernando Alonso fought hard to score second place, and Lewis Hamilton came in third. The results mean that Alonso leapfrogs Raikkonen to take second place in the World Drivers' Championship.

The race started without any major incidents, and Vettel left the first corner in the lead. Valtteri Bottas slipped down the order quickly, despite qualifying in second. At the end of the race, he was in 14th.

Hamilton briefly grabbed the lead around lap 20 when Vettel pitted, but he gave the spot up when he had to pit.

Around lap 27 there were two fantastic races on the track Rosberg, Webber and Alonso were running nose to tail with them in third, fourth and fifth respectively. Slightly further back, Adrian Sutil in ninth and Felipe Massa in tenth were having quite the fight as well. By this time Vettel was in the lead with a 15.7 second gap.

Webber eventually got around Rosberg, but Alonso was still pushing hard, and Alonso got around Rosberg a few corners later. Hamilton was still in second, but Webber and Alonso were catching up.

However, Webber sustained damage with Giedo van der Garde. Webber was lapping van der Garde, and van der Garde did not give enough room. Van der Garde received a 10-second stop-and-go penalty. With Alonso just 0.6 seconds behind Webber, the damage gave him a chance to gain and take the final podium position. Alonso made the pass on lap 42 to bring him into the final podium position.

With 10 laps to go, Alonso had cut the gap to Hamilton in second place to about half a second. Alonso made his first move on lap 62, but could not make it happen into the hairpin. Two corners later Alonso made the pass. That left Webber 8.6 seconds behind Hamilton with six laps to go and fighting for the final podium spot.

Alonso held the second position until the end of the race, despite almost constant pressure from Hamilton. Webber was never able to pass him. Raikkonen had a very rough day with a ninth place finish.

The stars of the race came from the smaller teams. Jean-Eric Vergne came in sixth, and Paul di Resta was seventh. It is the best results ever for both drivers.
