will finally reveal the production version of its i8 hybrid sports car at the Frankfurt Motor Show on September 10.
Previous concepts of the i8 used a hybrid version of the i3's powertrain that could get the car to 100km/h in an estimated 4.5 seconds. It is meant as the sporty sibling of the i3BMW i3Germany, 2014 > present but will have a standard three-cylinder hybrid to provide power to the electric motor.
The production version may not have exactly the same powertrain, but it will use a body carbon fiber reinforced plastic body in a low-slung, sporty body. It includes butterfly doors, full LED lights and a roof that rapidly falls behind the driver to the engine cover. The plug-in charging cover is hidden just in front of the driver's door.
