The Chevrolet Miray was first shown at the Seoul Motor Show in March, and Miray means “future” in Korean. The two seat sports car is meant to show the concept of a sustainable sports car from Chevy. It is powered by two front-mounted electric motors making 15kW each and a 1.5 liter, four-cylinder mounted behind the driver.
The Miray is inspired by by the Corvair Monza and unless you were told that you would never see the styling cues. The Miray is a pure, two seat sports car with the occupants sitting low surrounded by glass. It uses LED headlights or LED daytime running lights, and its body is made from carbon fiber-reinforced plastic and standard carbon fiber components. The driver controls the dual-clutch transmission via paddle shifters mounted behind the steering wheel.
The interior looks like something from Star Trek. Instruments and information for drivers and passengers are rear projected onto the panel with center-mounted touch controls.
The world will probably never see a production version of the Miray. It is too far out of the Chevy paradigm. It is nice to see that Chevy is at least toying with the idea of making a vehicle that could take on the Miata and other small sports cars.
