Ferrari unveils new generation V12 F12berlinetta

Ferrari has finally taken the cover out of its' new V12 model, named F12berlinetta. The new model is the successor of the 599 and with Ferrari saying that the car delivers unprecedented performance from a new engine, combined with innovative design that redefines classic themes along with extreme aerodynamics.

The new Ferrari F12berlinetta is being unveiled online ahead of its world premiere at next month's Geneva Motor Show.

According to Ferrari the F12berlinetta is the most powerful and high-performance Ferrari road car ever launched. It is powered by a 6262cc 65° V12 engine that delivers 740 hp, translating into a specific output of 118 hp/l. As for torque it reaches a peak of 690 Nm, 80 per cent of which is already available at just 2,500 rpm and provides strong acceleration all the way up to the 8,700 rpm limit. Ferrari has combined the new V12 engine with the F1 dual-clutch transmission, which has closer gear ratios developed specifically for this car’s performance.

As a result the new Prancing Horse 12-cylinder accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.1 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h in 8.5 seconds. Ferrari states that the F12berlinetta is able to reach a top-speed above the 340km/h.

The Ferrari F12berlinetta revolutionises the traditional transaxle layout of the Italian brand. While shortening the wheelbase, Ferrari has lowered the engine, dashboard and seats in the chassis. Thanks to a new layout of the rear suspension and gearbox Ferrari was able to reduce the volume of the car. With the new V12 model Ferrari has developed a very compact car with a lower centre of gravity that is further back in the chassis, and with a high level of aerodynamic efficiency.

An all-new spaceframe chassis and bodyshell has been developed by Scaglietti. It uses 12 different kinds of alloys, some of which have been used here for the first time in the automotive sector, and also employs new assembly and joining techniques. Thanks to it Ferrari engineers have managed to increase by 20 per cent the sturctural rigidity, while reducing weight to 1525kg (70 kg less than the previous V12 coupé).

The design of the F12berlinetta is the result of yet another partnership between Ferrari Styling Centre and Pininfarina

Love the car, hate the name. Either give it a name like the California or Daytona or a number like every other Ferrari. Don't mix and match. I love the front end shot though.

Very impressed on side and rear shot, mixed on the front, waiting for more photos, but way better than the leaked photos

I'm very pleased, but I wonder why they never made the 599 this good, or something...

Looking a tad more "consensual", love the flow of it, from the front wheel arches to the rear, and little details like the rear F1 lights. But it's a little more "polite" than the 599, methinks. Not t...

I have to confess that I'm not a Ferrari fan, but this new proposal really called my attention. Really beautiful.

The only gripe I really have is the grille...It's a little too big for me and I never really liked egg crate grilles. Mesh would look soo much better.

I agree with Takio, on pictures, it looks more consensual than the 599... And the back makes me think back to the 550 Maranello, from some years ago. But all in all, seems like a nice car too.
