New Passat Alltrack
With arrival to the market scheduled for September the new Passat Alltrack is the more rugged version of the new Passat sportswagon, designed to drive outside the urban environment. The differences between the Passat sportswagon and the Alltrack are visible, but are not limited to design.
In addition to the immediately noticeable plastic wheel arches and sills, the new Passat Alltrack gets a new front and rear bumper, which were designed to improve the angles of approach and passage in rough terrains. The lower car protection has also been strengthened in order to shield the mechanical and structural area of the car from damage. Furthermore, ground clearance was increased by 27,5mm.
Other differences in terms of mechanics is the presence of the standard all-wheel drive system, the 4Motion system. This technology allows the Alltrack to be driven in front-wheel drive until there is loss of traction. Apart from the usual driving 'Eco', 'Normal' and 'Sport' modes, the Passat Alltrack also has an additional 'Off Road' mode that reconfigures the throttle response, brake and start systems so that hill start and descent driving on rough terrains is kept under control.
The Alltrack range will include five engines that also appear in the current Passat range. Two petrol turbo engines will be offered in 150 and 220hp, the latter only available with an automatic six-speed DSG.
In addition, VW will still provide three diesel engines with 150, 190 and 240hp, with the two most powerful versions available only with an automatic six-speed DSG.
Sharan updated
At the Geneva Motor Show Volkswagen will also unveil an updated version of the Sharan. The changes were made in technological and mechanical level.
The new Sharan shall be fitted with the Automatic Post-Collision Braking system, which brakes automatically after a collision if the driver is not able to do so. In addition to this, the model will be available optionally with other traffic monitoring systems like Front Assist, with integrated technologies such as Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Assistant, Adaptive Cruise Control, Parking Assistant and Blind Spot Monitoring.
The range of petrol and diesel engines has also been updated and is now more powerful and more efficient. Diesel engines are now 15% more efficient and they all meet the EU6 standards.
The petrol engines have 150 and 220hp, while diesel engines are offered with 115, 150 and 184hp. With the exception of the 115hp diesel, all engines can be combined with an automatic dual-clutch six-speed DSG.
The new Sharan also receive the second generation of the new modular infotainment platform that offers even more connectivity.
The interior of the MPV model has also been upgraded with new trim, new materials and an improved dashboard. The rear of the new Sharan also received a new signature, with LED lights technology.
