Toyota has revealed the new Auris at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. It will be available with hybrid, diesel and petrol engines at introduction. The car was designed in the UK and will be built at Toyota's factory in Derbyshire. Toyota says that it is improving the interior quality of the car but will make it cheaper to run.
The new Auris will be offered with a hybrid, 1.4-liter diesel, 1.33-liter petrol and 1.6-liter petrol engine options. Toyota expects that sales will be split equally among the hybrid, diesel and petrol engines.
The new car is 30mm longer but 55mm lower than the previous model. The standard cars will offer 6l more cargo space than the current generation, but the hybrid has 126l more cargo space because of an improved hybrid system. Toyota reduced the coefficient of drag to Cd0.28, which is an improvement of 0.01.

The exterior design is sharper and more modern than the previous generation. The front end now incorporates LED running lights. Some models will have piano black trim on the B-pillar and tinted windows to make the sides appear like a continuous sheet of glass. The rear of the car is larger and has a larger opening to make loading cargo easier. It is 40kg lighter than the previous generation.

The new Auris Touring Sports is the wagon version of the new Auris and will be built in Britain at the same factory as the standard Auris and Avensis. The design of the car is almost identical to the regular Auris with the same pointed face and 2.6m wheelbase. The Touring Sports adds 285mm of length to the rear to increase the luggage capacity to 1,658 liters with the rear seats down or 530 liters with them up. There is also a second, hidden luggage area under the rear cargo floor. It also gets aluminum roof rails and a rear spoiler.
Like the standard Auris, the side windows are tinted and feature black trim, but this feature is extended on the Touring Sports. The wagon also gets a new rear bumper and tailgate design with a 100mm lower load height.
There will be four engines available on the Touring Sports. There are two petrol engines with either 1.33 liters or 1.6 liters of displacement, a 1.4-liter diesel and a hybrid with a 1.8-liter petrol engine. The hybrid produces 134hp, accelerates to 100km/h in 10.9 seconds and has an 112mph top speed. It emits 86g/km of CO2.
For the hybrid, the batteries are located under the rear seats, which means there is no adverse effect to the load capacity.
Options will include a panoramic sunroof that is 1.5m long and 960mm wide.
