All-New BT-50 premieres in Sydney

After showing the sketches of its new small-sized pickup last month, Mazda has unveiled at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney the All-New BT-50, which is supposed to give the brand a new direction in the utility segment.

Having been developed as an “Active lifestyle vehicle,” with BT-50 Mazda wants to extend the appeal of a utility from traditional business users to a wide range of customers, including families and pleasure-seekers.

The result is a utility that is comfortable, offers high quality interior; a smooth ride with the feel of a passenger car, sporty and responsive driving dynamics and finally environmental and safety performance.

The designers at Mazda defined the Bt-50 design concept as a “Sophisticated Beast.” Their objective was to create an expressive design that people would find desirable and for the pickup to be seen as strong and dependable.

“With the All-New BT-50, we aimed to express this emotion through the design, and we drew a lot of inspiration from various “movements” in the world around us,” explains Ryo Yanagisawa, chief designer of the all-new BT-50.

In terms of exterior design the BT-50 can be identified by its dynamic wedge-shaped proportions, trying to point out the image of a large carnivore about to pounce on its unsuspecting prey. Trying to run away from the conventional boxy image of a utility, Mazda brought to new pickup the sporty and dynamic lines that can be found in the brand’s portfolio.

The BT-50 receives an evolved Mazda’s family face, featuring the five-point grille, which together with the headlights and a chrome crossbar forms a large pentagon. The headlights feature a boomerang shape and, a first in the segment, the taillights are stretched horizontally, reaching around the corners and across the tailgate.
