for the first time since 2010. According to a study by the Millward Brown market research company, BMW became most valuable with a combination of good marketing and good product.
"As one of the great brands in the world, BMW has been absolutely consistent in the long-term regarding what is meaningfully different about their brand, in highly competitive market places," said Peter Walshe, global brand director for Millard Brown.
Toyota mostly lost its place because of the tsunami, flood in Thailand and world debt crisis last year. The tsunami knocked out its production capacity in Japan; the flood in Thailand knocked out its production there and the overall car market shrunk in many regions. The combination of these factors allowed BMW to take over.
Toyota and BMW have traded the accolade for most valuable brand most of the decade. Toyota held the title from 2006 to 2009. BMW took the title for 2010; Toyota took it back in 2011.
