BMW Posts Strong Growth in 2011; Planning Many New Models in 2012

BMW had a strong year in 2011, and it is expecting to further increase growth by introducing the new 3-series, 6-series Gran Coupe and revised 7-series. This year has been the best for sales, revenue and profit in BMW's history.

BMW had a revenue of €68.821 billion and a profit before tax of €7,383 billion. Of all vehicles in the BMW Group, it sold 1,668,982 units. The largest portion of those units were BMWs.

“Premium is and remains our business model and the basis for the BMW Group’s future success. In terms of innovation, design, sustainability and efficiency, our vehicles will continue to set standards in the premium segment”, said Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board for BMW Group.

BMW has moved up plans to have sell 2 million vehicles per year by 2020, and the new goal is to sell that many cars yearly by 2016. It also plans to spend 7% of expenditures on research and development in coming years, up from 5.4% in 2010.

BMW built 3.1% more motorcycles this year, and it is planning on introducing a BMW Scooter and a new Husqvarna road bike this year.

It will also introduce the new i-series cars later this year.
