The new midsize SUV is being designed with a focus on off-road capacity and should be produced in partnership with JMC, Ford's joint venture partner in China.

The design of the Everest concept was created by Ford's Australian design team. According to Ford China Director, John Lawler, the concept "offers beautiful design, premium refinement and rugged capabilities in equal measure."

Lawler also mentions that a new model based on the Everest would be a good addition to the growing range of SUVs at Ford.

The design of the vehicle includes some of the key elements that are part of the current visual features of Ford models, including the large front trapezoidal grille, next to a prominent lower bumper.

The Ford Everest is described as a versatile vehicle that does well in both urban and off-road driving. The concept is based on the Ford RangerRanger (UK)Ford Ranger (UK)United Kingdom, 1998 > present2 series
