The German rocketed to fifth place, overtaking Nico Hulkenberg and Felipe Massa, and returned to fourth place after the first round to the pits when he passed Red Bull Daniel Ricciardo. In the second stint of the race, with Mercedes confirming no fuel management problems, Rosberg first attacked Vettel's third place and finally took over Alonso's second place, confirming another Mercedes one-two.

Alonso finished the race in third place after having jumped immediately at the start from fifth to third place and later to second ahead of Vettel, thanks to an early trip to the pits. Yet the FerrariFerrariFerrariItaly, 1947 > present233 models

Vettel ended up having to fight with his teammate for fourth place. He didn't follow his team orders to let Ricciardo go through, but he eventually got overtaken and dropped to fifth place, finishing the race 24 seconds behind the Australian, who still managed to cut the gap to Alonso to 1.2 seconds.
