Hulkenberg storms into pole position in Brazil

Hulkenberg took everyone by surprise as he took the pole position for the Brazilian Grand Prix. It was his first ever pole position and the first for Williams since Nürburgring in 2005. In a drying qualifying session, Hulkenberg made it to the front row in sensational style.

With all he frontrunners changing to slicks for the last laps of Q3, the German made a series of fastest laps that was sufficient to beat both Red Bulls. Sebastien Vettel will be alongside Hulkenberg in the front row, while Mark Webber will depart from third place.

At the end of Q3 things didn't look good for Red Bull as both drivers were on the last places of the top ten. With two minutes remaining Webber, got off the track but then managed to jump to second position, being then beaten by his team-mate.

Although he was the leader during Q3 Lewis Hamilton dropped to fourth place at the end of the session.

Fernando Alonso also passed by first position but he will start Sunday's race in fifth position. On the third row he will have the company of the other Williams of Rubens Barrichello.

Renault's Robert Kubica was the first to go out on slicks but he went off and rejoined before making his best laps. At the end of the session he was seventh ahead of Mercedes' Michael Schumacher.

Just making it into Q3, local hero Felipe Massa only managed to drive his Ferrari to ninth place, ahead of the other Renault of Vitaly Petrov.

Almost out of the title contention, Jenson Button didn't help his cause as the Brit failed to perform and didn't qualify for Q3. He was lying in tenth in the last moments of the session but Felipe Massa took away his chance of fighting for pole position in Interlagos.
