Hyundai and Kia Aiming to Improve Turbo Engines

Hyundai and Kia have had success in the US with turbocharged engines and are doubling down.

International Powertrain Conference, the Korean brands said that they are planning to improve their turbo engines and put them in more vehicles. 

Hyundai-Kia already has two turbo petrol engines in their portfolio with 1.6 and 2.0 liters. It says that its goal is to improve this engine family and to develop new "small, yet strong" turbo engines. These engines will be marketed especially to China and the US. 

It is also working on diesel engines, but there are not as far along.

It is also working on new, lighter transmissions that are also not very far along at the moment.

The company's latest engine is the Kappa 1.0 TCI turbo petrol enging. This tiny engine makes 106ps and 137Nm of torque.
