Motorsport has taken its new i20 WRCHyundai i20 WRCRepublic of Korea, 2013 > present car out of its workshop in Germany and began shakedown tests of the car that is scheduled to debut at the 2014 Rallye Monte Carlo.
The test covered 550km over three days. The car is technically complete, but the team is investigating different options, like suspension set-ups, and tweaking the car's 1.6-liter turbocharged engine.
Hyundai expects the car to be rally-ready soon, but it will be working on finer details all the way up to the start of the rally.
"After starting our operations from scratch at the Alzenau factory in early January, we have been developing the car and now we can put the theory into practice. The car is on the road and I have to admit it was quite an emotional moment to see the latest specification of the i20 WRC in action for the first time," said Hyundai Motorsport Team Principal Michel Nandan.
The German workshop is responsible for the setup work, but much of the design happened at Hyundai headquarters in Namyang, South Korea. The two teams are working back and forth to hopefully create a rally winner.
The car will race in several regional rallies around Europe this summer for further testing.
The team has not yet announced any of its driver lineup.
