has just revealed that the super-roadster F-Type Project 7Jaguar F-Type Project 7United Kingdom, 2013 > 20131 video
will be entitled to a limited edition to mark the launch of the new Special Vehicle Operations division of the brand.
The Project 7 transformed the F-Type roadster inspired by a '50s when drivers went to compete, took the extra weight, raced and then put everything in place to go home. Compared to the original prototype, Jaguar had to perform some modifications to allow the vehicle to become road-legal.
The limited edition is equipped with a V8 5.0-liter supercharged engine with 575hp and 680Nm of torque combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The engine takes Project 7 to 100km/h in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 300km/h.
250 copies will be produced by hand and sold, each around 168.000 euros. The production will take place in 2015 at the new sub-division JLR Special Vehicle Operations (SVO), under the direction of Paul Newsome.
Essentially, Project 7 is an F-type roadster has been cut-off of all the heavy mechanism of the soft-top and received lighter seats which allow the car to have a total weight of 1585kg.
Compared with the base model, Project 7 has a new front bumper and splitter, a windscreen with a greater slope and a protruding fairing that includes a protection bar behind the driver's head, plus new side skirts and diffuser and a rear wing.
The interior is similar to the F-Type, but Project 7 gets new padded seats with carbon fiber sides, a steering wheel covered in Alcantara and some color details which give the car its own character. Each copy gets a numbered plaque signed by Ian Callum.
The chassis receives pillar front suspension specially created by the SVO, as well as changes in the front top mounts and wider front and rear stabilizer bars. The entire system is adjustable in height at both ends, and the Porject 7 configuration has now springs and shock absorbers adapted to its special function. The vehicle also receives carbon-ceramic disc brakes of 398 mm diameter in front and 380 mm in rear, with six-piston and four-piston calipers, respectively.
According to the engineers, thanks to the cooperation of the electronic differential and electronic stability control the car provides provides helpful brake-controlled torque vectoring and increases steering feel.
With major changes in terms of aerodynamics, the production version of Project 7 develops more 177 percent of downforce at high speed than a standard F-Type convertible.
Deliveries should begin in mid-2015 and the sale of limited edition should be completed within a year.
