Sportswagon, which was previously called the SW in some markets, has entered production at Kia's Zillina, Slovakia, factory and will hit dealers in Europe in September.
“The cee’d Sportswagon is an important addition to the Kia range in Europe and we have been preparing for its production throughout 2012. We are confident that the Sportswagon will prove very popular with European customers and help the Zilina plant in meeting its production target,” said Eek-Hee Lee, President and CEO of Kia Motors Slovakia.
The Zillna factory began building the new Cee'd earlier this year and will add the three-door Pro_Cee'd in 2013. Production at the factory will hit 285,000 cars this year, and the Sportswagon will be about 20% of that production. The factory builds both the cars and its engines.
Kia has not yet announced prices or specs for the Sportswagon but says it will offer two petrol and two diesel engines. These will almost certainly be the 98hp 1.4-liter petrol, 133hp 1.6-liter petrol, 89hp 1.4-liter diesel and 126hp 1.6-liter diesel that are already offered on the regular Cee'd.
