Lamborghini Building New Car for 50th Birthday

will celebrate its 50th anniversary as an automaker with a party in Milan in May 2013 and plans to reveal a new car during the festivities. 

Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann said that the company will build "a special car," but it may just be a one-off like the Aventador JLamborghini Aventador JItaly, 2012 > present10 photos

"It will not be a revival or retro," said Winkelmann.

For the celebration, Lamborghini is inviting owners to come to Italy to drive through Tuscany, Rome and Bologna and has set up a Web site to help owners ship their car to Italy. Every Lamborghini dealer in the world will stage a smaller event on the anniversary. 

"The global market is 25,000 cars, so volatility and opportunity are very close together," said Winkelmann about the global supercar market.
