BMW is launching a long-wheelbase 5 Series Sedan version that was exclusively developed and built for the Chinese market. The new model is said to combine design, with driving pleasure and comfort.
Joinning new straight-six power units and BMW EfficientDynamics technologies, the new long-wheelbase 5 Series is able to deliver good performance together with efficiency.
With the wheelbase growing 14 centimetres, comparing with the original 5 Series, the long-wheelbase version gets a coupe-like appearance. The stretched silhouette and the chiseled rear give this vehicle a very characteristic look.
The long-wheelbase BMW 5 Series Sedan will be powered by three straight-six power units developing between 150 kW/204 hp and 225 kW/306 hp maximum output. The model will be fitted as standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission, which contributes to the car’s efficiency together with the EPS Electric Power Steering. Also featuring Brake Energy Regeneration, on-demand control of ancillary units, and active air flap control, BMW was able to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emission by up to 18 per cent.
The production of the long-wheelbase version will take place at BMW Plant Shenyang, with significant investments being made in terms of expansion and modernisation of the production facilities, and additional, specially trained employees have been hired to build the car.
