will start at $16,945 in the United States and will get 41mph highway fuel economy. Prices start at $245 more than the previous generation. It will be on sale in September.

The new three will be offered with either the SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter engine or SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter engine, and both will be available with either a manual or automatic transmission. It will be offered in four trim levels – SV, Sport, Touring and Grand Touring. The six-speed automatic transmission adds $1,050 to the price of all trims.

The base 2.0-liter engine produces 155hp and 150lb-ft of torque, and the 2.5-liter has 184hp and 185lb-ft of torque.

The 2.0-liter hatchback is rated at 29mpg city and 40mpg highway with the manual or 30mpg city and 40mpg highway for the automatic. Sedan models have 41mpg highway economy.

The 2.5-liter is only available with the automatic at launch. For the sedan, it is rated at 28mpg city and 39mpg highway or if the i-ELOOP regenerative braking system is added, it is rated at 29mpg city and 40mpg highway. The hatchback is rated at 28mpg city and 37mpg highway or 29mpg and 39mpg highway with i-ELOOP.

The basic Mazda 3 i SV will start at $16,945 with a six-speed manual or $17,995 with a six-speed automatic. It comes standard with keyless entry, daytime running lights, USB connection and power windows.

The Sport trim adds folding rear seats, Bluetooth, cruise control, a trip computer, CD player and tachometer. Prices start at $18,445 for the sedan or $18,945 for the hatchback.

The Touring trim adds 16in wheels, heated side mirrors, an armrest with cup holders, keyless start, sport seats, rear spoiler and blind spot monitoring. The trim costs $19,595 for the sedan or $20,095 for the hatchback. There is also an additional Technology Package on the Touring trim for $1,600 that adds the 7in touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and rearview camera.

The Grand Touring starts at $22,745 for the sedan and $23,245 for the hatchback. It adds power, heated seats covered in leatherette and a moonroof.

The 2.5-liter engine is available on the Touring trim and above and starts at $24,595 for the sedan or $25,095 for the hatchback. The Grand Touring with the 2.5-liter engine costs $25,995 for the sedan or $26,495 for the hatchback. The infotainment system is standard with the 2.5-liter. Both trims are available with an optional technology package for $1,600 that adds regenerative braking.
